Do you carry two phones, one for work and one for the rest of your life?
Most people who do have the same reasons. Something you wrote in a group chat gets screenshotted and passed around. An app you signed up for with your phone number starts suggesting you to people you’d rather avoid. And every time some company gets breached, you wonder about all the messages and photos you’ve sent. So you get a second number, and then a second phone.
We built Krypton Ø (Krypton zero) so one app can do the job of that second phone.
Privacy that doesn’t need a second phone. Starting today, it’s on Android.
Family photos, just for family
If you’ve ever held back a photo of your kids because coworkers might see it, post it to your feed in Krypton Ø. Everyone here actually knows you. We call them your Fam, and for each post you decide whether all your Fam get it or only a few people you pick. You can also post things that disappear after a day. Your Fam list lives on your phone, so we don’t know who’s on it.
Work talk that shouldn’t leak
Some things you’d rather keep out of a group chat, like a plan that isn’t public yet or the terms of a deal. In Krypton Ø, only the people you send a message to can open it, and screenshots come out black. You can share files up to 2GB, and a group chat can hold up to 1,030 people. If our server were ever broken into, there would be nothing there to read.
Calls without giving out your number
Krypton Ø never asks for a phone number or email, so you call your Fam without one. You can become Fam with someone you know from work and never hand over your personal number. On a business trip or overseas, you can call home from the same app. Your voice is encrypted between the two phones, and the call history stays on each phone.
If you lose your phone
Your account is still yours. With the 18 English words you wrote on paper and your six-digit PIN, you get it back on a new phone. If someone else tries, your original phone shows the request for 48 hours and you can stop it there.
We built it so we can’t read it either
Posts, photos, chats and calls are encrypted on your phone before they leave it. Our server only ever holds ciphertext it can’t open. We’ve published how it works in our security design.
How to get it
Krypton Ø is on Google Play. The iPhone app is coming soon to the App Store.
If a member sent you an invitation link, just open it. If not, tap “Agree and request to join” on the app’s first screen.
